William J. Corcoran, 93, Of Dumont

DUMONT, N.J. -- William J. “Mickey” Corcoran, 93, passed away Sunday Nov 29 at his home in Dumont.

Born and raised in Englewood, he attended St. Cecelia High School and Horace Mann Prep. 

After a stint in the U.S. Navy, he attended Springfield College before receiving his master’s degree from Columbia University. 

He put all that education to good use teaching, coaching and mentoring young men and women for the remainder of his life. To the very end, he was grateful for his family, and his many wonderful friends and colleagues who so enriched his life. 

He was the beloved husband for 70 years of Dolores (nee McGrath), devoted father of his loving children JoAnne Kehoe of Oradell, Michael and his wife Sue of River Edge, Major Billy Corcoran, USMC retired and his wife Jill of West Chester, Pa, and Rookie and his wife Lisa of Emerson; and cherished grandfather of Michael, Meghan and Maureen Kehoe, Christopher, Kayla, Amber, Jay, Courtney, Katie, Ryan and Brandon Corcoran, Rob and Jaime Enering. 

He was predeceased by his daughter Patricia Leightenheimer. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the “Mickey Corcoran Memorial Scholarship Fund” to benefit high school scholar athletes. Please make checks payable to BCCA and noted “Mickey Corcoran Memorial Scholarship Fund”. Contributions should be sent to Bergen County Coaches Association, 235 Airmont Rd., Mahwah, NJ 07430.
