William J. Canty Jr., 67, Bergenfield Resident

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- William J. Canty Jr., of Bergenfield, died on Friday, March 25,. He was 67.

Canty was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers, an avid ballroom dancer, a lifelong Irish historian and world traveler, and president of the Ridgewood chapter of the Irish American Unity Conference.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane Canty Cowen; sisters Bridget Lohmeyer, and Honorah Donato and her husband Vincent; granddaughter Jocelyn; 12 nieces and nephews; and 22 grand-nieces and -nephews.

Canty was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Canty.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., in Bergenfield. All will gather at St John's Church, 29 No. Washington Ave., in Bergenfield, at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday for the 10 a.m. funeral mass. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Tenafly.
