NEW MILFORD, N.J. -- Eugene F. ”Gene” Hammerle was 86 when he passed away Thursday, June 16.
Born in Weehawken, he lived throughout north Hudson County before moving to New Milford, where he lived for 38 years prior to settling in Whiting for the last 20 years.
Hammerle was a technical supervisor with New York Telephone for many years before his retirement. After retiring, he volunteered his time with Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack and Community Medical Center in Toms River.
He was predeceased in 1998 by his first wife Beatrice (nee Orr) and was the spouse of June Chambers Hammerle. He was the father of Eugene W. Hammerle and his wife Joan C. Hammerle and Steven J. Hammerle and his wife Diane M.Hammerle. He was the grandfather of Linda Tadych, Karen Hernandez, Eugene J. Hammerle, Karl Hammerle, Kristen Cappadona, and Eric Hammerle. He also is survived by five great-grandchildren, Caroline, Charlotte, Henry, Calvin and Allison
He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Eckhoff, and brother, Otto Hammerle.
A graveside prayer service will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
