BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Esther Malaney, 80, of Bergenfield, died Oct. 21.
She was born July 5, 1936, in Scranton, Pa. and raised in Dumont.
She graduated as a registered nurse from Englewood School of Nursing, where she worked as an operating room nurse and later taught nursing. She continued her studies in nursing science at Fairleigh Dickinson University and, in her later career, worked in orthopedics, nursing administration and private duty nursing.
After retiring, she enjoyed spending time at the lake in Pennsylvania and winter months in Fort Myers, Fla.
She was predeceased by her mother, Rose DiMaggio (Parola); father, Salvatore DiMaggio; and husband, John Malaney.
She is survived by her children, Craig Malaney, Renee Pych and Carl Malaney; and grandchildren, Billy, Ashley and Jessica.
A funeral Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m Wednesday at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 280 Washington Ave., Dumont. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tenafly. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate her life from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Ave., Dumont.
She supported many charities; St. Jude Children's Hospital was closest to her heart. Donations in her honor would be greatly appreciated.
