Charles H.F. Blumeling III, 81, Bergenfield Resident

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Charles H.F. Blumeling III, of Bergenfield, died on Monday, Jan. 2. He was 81.

Blumeling earned a bachelor's in civil engineering from the Newark College of Engineering and was a brother in the Tau Delta Phi fraternity. He then earned a master's degree in 1970. For many years, he was Newark's director of engineering.

He also taught classes at Rutgers and was a consultant for multiple municipalities.

A lifelong member of the South Presbyterian Church, in Bergenfield, Blumeling participated in many church groups and activities. He was a proud Eagle Scout, since 1950. He loved sailing, was part of the Palisade Power Squadron and a member of the Hook Mountain Yacht Club.

He is survived by his children, Charles IV, Gary, Katherine and Glen, and grandchildren Alison Zahn, Charles V, Christopher and Craig Blumeling. He was predeceased by his wife, Carol; parents Charles and Gladys; granddaughter Cynthia; and sisters Denise and Leslie.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5,  at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 South Washington Ave., in Bergenfield. All will meet at South Presbyterian Church, 150 W. Church St., in Bergenfield, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, for the funeral service. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
