The proposed law comes after The Record reported on hundreds of alleged assaults. The nearly 300 reports of assault in 2015 is up nearly 40 percent from the prior year, according to The Record.
Hospital President Susan Mendelowitz declined an invitation to testify before the committee hospital -- or to send a hospital official instead, The Record reported.
The proposed hospital authority would have 11 members, including Bergen County Executive James Tedesco and five public members he would appoint. The committee expedited its consideration of the bill, which was introduced last week, according to The Record.
