Tyrone Malcolm, 39, of Middletown, NY, has been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Mohammed Sahariar, which also left his co-worker with critical injuries, according to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna.

Investigators say that shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, Sahariar and the second victim, who has not been identified, were working at the Ramada Inn on Two Bridges Road when they were both shot.

Sahariar was pronounced dead at the scene less than an hour later, while the second victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he remained in critical condition nearly a week later on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The multi-agency investigation led police to identify Malcolm as a likely suspect, and he was ultimately tracked to New York and apprehended by members of the US Marshal's Service Fugitive Task Force and detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. A motive for the shooting has not been released by investigators.

Malcolm was charged with murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

He was being held in New York pending his extradition to New Jersey to face the charges.

Sahariar's Facebook profile shows he's from Bangladesh.

No details about Malcolm's next court date have been released.
