FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. — A fitness pioneer is offering paddle board yoga instruction classes at her Franklin Lakes studio on May 21 and June 4.
Andrea Powers, a Bergenfield native, is the original creator and inventor of iSUP (Indoor Stand Up Paddle) yoga and founder of OmFit on High Mountain Road.
The fitness instructor gave up a college running scholarship in New Jersey to pursue her California dream.
She spent her days surfing before uprooting again to West Milford. It was Powers who came up with the idea for a board that simulates being on water.
"The more challenging poses become easier because the board teaches you what muscles you need to activate to perform the poses [as opposed to] on a stable platform," she said. "You become hyper focused and present."
Powers owns several yoga companies, including a certification training program.
