The screening program is designed to promote early detection and prompt treatment of skin cancer. It's for Bergenfield residents, ages 18 and older, not currently under the care of a dermatologist.
A practitioner from the Advanced Laser & Skin Cancer Center of Teaneck will conduct the screening.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, with about one million new cases diagnosed each year, according to a release from the Bergenfield Health Department.
Fortunately, most skin cancers, including melanoma, can be cured if detected early, the release said.
The importance of a self-periodic skin exam is to look over the body for any changes in the skin or moles is recommended, according to the Bergenfield Health Department.
The screening will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The screening clinic will be conducted at Bergenfield Borough Hall, 2nd floor, 198 North Washington Ave., Bergenfield.
