A 69 year-old man has been charged with fatally shooting an Atlantic City neighbor during a dispute, authorities said.

Atlantic City police received a 9-1-1 call at 11:24 a.m. on Saturday about a woman suffering a gunshot wound at 1507 Belfield Ave., Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said.

The 32-year-old shooting victim, Marketa E. Thorpe, was taken to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, City Division, where she was pronounced dead, Tyner said.

Maximo Santiago was arrested by Atlantic City police officers and charged with first-degree murder and several weapons charges, Tyner said.

An autopsy on Sunday concluded that Thorpe’s death was a homicide from a bullet wound to the torso, according to Tyner.

Santiago was being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.

Anyone with information about this or other crimes is urged to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7800. People also can call Crime Stoppers at 609-652-1234 or 1-800-658-8477.
