An armed robber was chased and captured after tying up a store clerk in Atlantic City, authorities said.

At 2:31 p.m. on Tuesday, patrol officers responded to the Super Mini Mart in the 2300 block of Atlantic Avenue for a panic alarm.

Sergeant TJ Moynihan arrived and found that the store clerk had been robbed at knife point. The suspect had stolen money and other items and used tape from the store to bind the clerk’s hands together before fleeing, police said.

After a short foot chase with other officers, Jermaine Whitehurst, 22, was arrested in the 2000 block of Bacharach Boulevard.

Whitehurst was in possession of items he allegedly stole from the store and a large knife, according to police. While running from the officers, Whitehurst had tossed a roll of tape which was recovered, police said.

Whitehurst, of Atlantic City, was charged with robbery, witness tampering, terroristic threats, theft, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, police said.

He was being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
