The Baltimore County resident hit the jackpot in the Dec. 2 evening drawing, claiming two $50,000 prizes and an additional $25,000 win on straight bets, according to Maryland Lottery officials.
Checking his numbers on the Lottery app, the man had an unforgettable reaction: “I was like, ‘Wow! I actually won it.’”
His formula for success? A mix of strategy and superstition. He plays a $0.50 straight bet for every Pick 5 drawing but adds two $1 straight bets on Mondays and Fridays. This Monday, luck was definitely on his side.
The winning numbers were inspired by a relative’s birthday, and the family connection isn’t stopping there. "I am going to help my kids, grandchildren, and use the rest to pay off my car,” the winner said with a smile.
The tickets were purchased at Liberty Wine & Spirits on Brenbrook Drive in Baltimore County. The store gets a prize of its own, pocketing a $1,250 Lottery bonus for selling the lucky tickets.
