Montgomery County Fire & Rescue’s Swift Water Team was dispatched just after 4 p.m. on June 13 to Purple Horse Beach near the Anglers Boat Ramp, according to MCFRS PIO David Pazos.

Officials said crews were first alerted about a child stuck in the rapids and another person missing near the Virginia shoreline.

One man was quickly rescued and transported by paramedics with non-life-threatening injuries, Pazos said.

A young boy was also safely rescued and transferred into the custody of the US Park Police to be reunited with family.

Crews cleared the scene after confirming both people were accounted for. No other injuries were reported.

The area near Purple Horse Beach and Anglers Boat Ramp is known for strong river currents and rocky conditions, particularly after recent rain or water release events from upstream dams.

A "safety awareness outreach and risk reduction" in the area has been scheduled for Saturday, June 14.
