Jones announced her candidacy on Nov. 21 to fill the vacant 30th District Senate seat, emphasizing her commitment to collaboration, community priorities, and proven leadership.
In her announcement, Jones highlighted her legislative accomplishments over the past four and a half years.
"Since I first took office, my promise to you has been my steadfast commitment to promoting, fighting, and advocating for the needs of our community," Jones said.
During her tenure, Jones passed 27 bills addressing issues such as tax reduction, disaster recovery for small businesses, and election security.
As Vice-Chair of the Health and Social Service Subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee, she also helped secure over $100 million in funding for Maryland’s shock trauma centers and secured millions more for capital projects, including parks and climate resiliency efforts in District 30A, she noted.
Jones praised Congresswoman-Elect Sarah Elfreth, whose departure created the Senate vacancy.
"I want to thank (her) for building a legacy of bringing people together and getting things done for Annapolis and Anne Arundel County," she said.
Looking ahead, Jones identified key areas of focus for her campaign, including expanding access to reproductive healthcare, supporting marginalized communities, and ensuring economic stability for Marylanders.
"This is difficult work, and it requires cooperative, trusted, and proven leadership," Jones added.
The 30th District Senate race is expected to draw significant attention as candidates vie to represent the Annapolis area and Anne Arundel County in the Maryland General Assembly.
