Chloe Clagg, 20, has been identified by the sheriff's office as the pedestrian who was struck by 42-year-old Steven O'Neill's 2017 Toyota 4Runner and hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Both are from Chesapeake Beach.

Members of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office were called at around 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 26 to the intersection of Bayside Road and Bristol Drive in Chesapeake Beach, where passersby reported a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian who was down with critical injuries.

The initial investigation determined that O'Neill was heading south on Bayside Road when Clagg ran across the roadway into a travel lane and was struck by the Toyota.

Clagg was treated at the scene and rushed to Capital Region Shock Trauma in serious condition. O’Neill was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation. Several roads were closed on Thursday morning in the area while the sheriff's office probed the crash.
