Robert Deeter, 31, was arrested Friday, April 18, following a wild scene that stretched across Bethesda and ended in a barricade situation, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
It started around 2:30 p.m., when officers responded to the 10300 block of Old Georgetown Road for a reported kidnapping, police said. Officers soon spotted Deeter driving a red Toyota RAV4 with a woman in the passenger seat.
As they followed the car into the area of Rockledge Drive and I-270, the woman suddenly jumped out.
Police say the woman told them Deeter, who she knew, had kidnapped her at gunpoint.
Deeter continued driving to the area of Old Georgetown Road and Beech Avenue, where he refused to get out of the vehicle.
That’s when the Emergency Response Team was called in.
Negotiators were able to talk Deeter down, and he was taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle.
Deeter was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was charged with:
- Kidnapping;
- First-degree assault;
- Stalking;
- Harassment
- Multiple weapons offenses.
He is being held without bond pending a hearing.
