A wild weapons call in Anne Arundel County ended with a teen in handcuffs and an injured deputy, after a suspect vehicle slammed into a sheriff’s cruiser and suspects took off running, authorities announced.

It happened around 3 p.m. Monday, April 14, when Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Deputy Cpl. Hines responded to a shots fired and weapons threat call while working a special detail, the sheriff’s office said.

Two suspects were already in custody for assault when Hines arrived; but, as officers secured the scene, a vehicle linked to the incident tried to bolt from the area.

A traffic stop was initiated — and that’s when things escalated.

The suspect vehicle collided with Hines’ patrol car before multiple occupants bailed out and ran, officials said. One of them was caught after a brief foot chase, allegedly carrying a loaded Glock 9mm handgun.

A second firearm was found inside the vehicle.

The suspect — identified as 18-year-old Jamari Johnson, along with a 16-year-old and 15-year-old juvenile — were taken to Central Booking Intake for processing.

Hines was evaluated at Bayview Medical Center and released a few hours later.

“We commend Corporal Hines for her bravery, swift action, and continued dedication to public safety,” the agency said in a statement.
