Worcester Driver Charged With 5-Year-Old's Murder Was Grabbing Money, Reports Say

A Worcester driver charged with the murder of a 5-year-old girl said he was grabbing money when he struck the girl and her mother earlier this year, MassLive reports.

Christopher Remillard said he reached in his "pocket and pulled out a $20 bill to get gas," when he allegedly struck Candice Asare-Yeboah and her mother Asha Nyarko-Asare in April, the outlet reports.

Police responded to a report of a pedestrian crash in the area of 91 Stafford Street around 9:36 a.m. on Monday, April 18, Worcester Police said.

Upon arrival, officers found Candice was unconscious while her mother was conscious but unable to move, police said. Candice was taken to a local hospital and died from her injuries on May 23, MassLive reports.

"We laid our beautiful Candice to rest today, she looked beautiful and peaceful," an updated post from a GoFundMe organized in the girl's honor read. "May her beautiful soul RIP."

Meanwhile, Remillard is facing several charges including motor vehicle homicide, speeding, marked lanes violation, impeded operations and negligent operation, MassLive reports.
