Residents Rescued, Displaced By Basement Fire At Fitchburg Home: Report

Twelve people were displaced and one was taken to the hospital after a three-alarm basement fire tore through a home in Central Massachusetts, officials and reports said.

Fitchburg Fire responded to the fire at a 8 Plymouth Street on Thursday morning, Feb. 16, Fitchburg Fire said on Facebook

Three people were rescued from the top floor the home and one was taken to the hospital, Boston25 reports. Officials said the fire started in the basement then spread to the top of the building due to its "balloon frame construction."

No injuries were reported and the Red Cross and Salvation Army are helping those who are now without a home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
