The victim of a fatal shooting attempted to drive himself away from danger but lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

On Monday, March 15, the Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s Office said that Luis Ramos, 31, of Springfield, was the shooting victim.

Ramos was shot on Thursday, March 11, in Chicopee, the DA said. When Chicopee Police responded to numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area of Springfield and Walton streets, they could not find a victim.

Soon after, Springfield Police received a report of a single-car crash in the area of Springfield and Cunningham streets in Springfield. When they arrived at the scene, police discovered a deceased victim who was later identified as Ramos, the DA said.

Responding medical personnel reported Ramos appeared to have gunshot wounds.

The killing is under investigation by the Chicopee and Springfield police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
