The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced fines for 27 companies across the U.S. due to violations that occurred from Oct. 9-15.

In Connecticut, the businesses that were fined by OSHA are:

Wintonbury Care Center, Bloomfield

The Children’s Center of Hamden, Hamden

Chelsea Place Care Center, Hartford

Trinity Hill Care Center, Hartford

SecureCare Options, Rocky Hill.

Each business was assessed a $15,422 fine and cited for a violation of respiratory protection standards.

The violations OSHA found mostly include failure to: implement a written respiratory protection program; provide a medical evaluation, respirator fit test, training on the proper use of a respirator and personal protective equipment; Report an injury, illness or fatality; Record an injury or illness on OSHA recordkeeping forms; comply with the General Duty Clause of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.

Prior to the most recent round of fines, OSHA had issued fines to two other Connecticut businesses for COVID-19 violations: Natchaug Hospital in Mansfield and Leisure Care in Woodbridge. These care facilities were also cited for respiratory protection violations.

So far, OSHA has fined 112 establishments across the U.S. related to COVID-19 worker-safety infractions. All of the fines together add up to a little over $1.6 million.
