The incident took place in Berkshire County in Pittsfield around 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 24.
Police, firefighters, and EMS responded to the Burbank Park public beach area at Onota Lake for an unresponsive child found in the water, said Lt. John Soules, of the Pittsfield Police Department.
Citizens on scene began administering CPR and responding emergency workers took over rescue measures upon their arrival, Soules said.
The child was transported to Berkshire Medical Center and later transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield in Hamden County for additional treatment.
Her condition was last listed as stable, Soules added.
