Matthew Davis, age 34, was fatally shot during a confrontation between Vermont State Police and Brattleboro Police in West Brattleboro, Vt. on the night of Tuesday, July 19, Massachusetts State Police said.
Authorities were looking to speak with Davis, of Fitchburg, regarding the disappearance of his former girlfriend, 23-year-old Mary Anderson, of Harvard, Massachusetts State Police said.
Anderson was reported missing after she did not return home from visiting friends in Hudson, N.H., on Sunday, July 17, Harvard Police said. Her body was later found in the vehicle she was last seen driving in Brattleboro, Vt., MSP said.
Davis was shot after he pulled a knife and lunged at police who were trying to talk to him about Anderson's death, MSP said. Investigators are continuing to determine Davis' connection to her death.
