State Police from Massachusetts and Connecticut will escort the body of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William Evans, a Western Massachusetts native, after the flight carrying his remains arrives at Bradley International Airport.

The escort will happen around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, said the Connecticut State Police.

Motorcycle members of the State Police Traffic Services Unit will be joined by police from Massachusetts in a motorcade to North Adams, where Evans will be laid to rest.

The motorcade will exit the airport onto Route 75 and travel through Suffield and Enfield before crossing the state line into Massachusetts via Interstate 91.

Evans, also known as "Billy," grew up in Berkshire County, in North Adams and neighboring Clarksburg, and graduated from Western New England University.

He was 41 years old and served for nearly two decades in the US Capitol Police Force.

Evans was killed in the line of duty on Friday, April 2 after a suspect rammed a vehicle into him at a barricade near the U.S. Capitol.

A private funeral will be held for Evans at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 15, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, in Adams.

A private burial will follow the mass.

President Joe Biden, a host of congressional leaders, and the Capitol Police paid respects to Evans in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, April 12.
