Paulette has just been upgraded from a tropical depression. It's the 16th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season.
The previous record was Philippe, which formed on Sept. 17, 2005.
As of early Monday afternoon, Sept. 7, As of 11 a.m. the center of Tropical Storm Paulette was located about 1,370 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands, where the northeastern Caribbean Sea meets the western Atlantic Ocean.
It's moving west-northwest at around three miles per hour.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 40 mph with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.
A general west-northwestward to northwestward motion at a slightly faster speed is expected during the next several days, the National Hurricane Center said.
Additional strengthening is expected during the next couple of days.
