The North Adams Police Department released a photo of a "person of interest" who allegedly stole a motor vehicle after last being seen in the area of Union Street near McDonald's.

A post on the department’s Facebook page attempting to identifying the woman drew so much traffic, criticism, and vitriol that it was taken down less than a day later, North Adams Police Chief Jason Wood said.

No other descriptive information about the "person of interest" was released by investigators.

Anyone with information regarding the woman’s identity or whereabouts has been asked to contact detectives at the North Adams Police Department by calling (413) 664-4994 and choosing option number one.
