Police Praise Business Owner Who Thwarted Alleged Car Breaking-And-Entering

Police are praising the quick actions of a local store owner who stopped an alleged motor vehicle breaking and entering.

On Thursday, Jan. 22, around 10 a.m. police received a report of a breaking and entering into a motor vehicle parked in the area of Diamond Nail, 325 Front St. in Chicopee.

A local businesswoman allegedly saw a man enter a motor vehicle that belonged to one of her customers.

She reported the suspicious activity and provided a description of the man to the police.

The officers searched the area and found arrested a suspect who allegedly attempted to flee, police said.

“A collaborative effort by the store owner, Officer’s Lemieux, Paquette, Slachetka, and Pieczarka helped locate the suspect and returned the victim's property,” Chicopee Police said.

Police said they were able to return an allegedly stolen wallet as well as cash to the victim. Chicopee Police did not identify the victim or the business owner. 

James Snape, 32, of Westfield was arrested in connection with the suspected B&E and charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle during the daytime, and larceny under $1,200, police said.
