Greenfield Fire responded to the crash on the Mohawk Trail near Long View Tower around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March, 12, the department said on Facebook.

Upon arrival, crews found that they "were quickly outnumbered with multiple patients." The crash was declared a "mass casualty incident" and additional ambulances were called to the scene.

Two people were airlifted to Baystate Medical Center's Trauma Unit in Springfield, Greenfield Fire said. Meanwhile, two children were transported by ambulance and five people were injured overall, MassLive reports. The crash shut down the roadway for several hours, according to officials.

"Thank you to all of the above agencies and members, as well as the bystanders who stopped to help before responders arrived on scene," Greenfield Fire continued. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to those involved."
