Bear sightings in Massachusetts aren't uncommon. State wildlife officials estimate there are more than 4,500 black bears in the Bay State, with most of them living in Worcester County, northern Middlesex County, and west to the Berkshires.
Last week, the Sunderland Police Department put out a notice that someone had spotted a bear cub in a neighborhood and residents should keep their distance.
The bears have become accustomed to people and will often wander into neighborhoods looking for food like trash, bird seed, or pet food. While they're adorable to look at from afar, bears are dangerous. Wildlife experts say you should remove potential food sources to keep your neighborhood from becoming a bear buffet.
