A family from Southeast Massachusetts is opening up the conversation surrounding mental health after a 36-year-old mother tragically took her own life following the birth of her twins.
Ariana Sutton, of Norton, was "a vibrant and devoted mother" who was "eagerly awaiting the arrival of her twins," a GoFundMe campaign reads. However, the twins' early arrival brought unexpected challenges that sadly pushed Sutton's mental health to the ultimate breaking point.
"Despite her relentless efforts to seek help, the burden of postpartum depression became too much to bear," the GoFundMe continues.
Sutton died by suicide on Wednesday, May 31.
Born in Stoughton and raised in Easton, Sutton graduated from Oliver Ames High School in 2005, her obituary reads. Sutton went on to obtain a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance Education at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She and her sister also co-owned Starline Academy for the Performing Arts in Stoughton for the past eight years, her obituary continues.
"Ariana thrived at inspiring children with the joys of dance and was an avid animal lover, her obituary reads. "Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her daughter Melody."
The purpose of the GoFundMe is to help support the Sutton family, especially Ariana's husband Tyler who is an Easton Police Officer as he cares for their children.
"With the high cost of childcare in Massachusetts adding an extra layer of financial strain for the Sutton family, your contributions will help provide essential childcare support," the campaign reads. "Together, we can help alleviate this burden, ensuring that the Sutton family has the resources they need to heal and rebuild their lives."
