The deadly scene played out shortly before 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, when Michael Anthony Carlucci, 48, of Waldorf, was driving his 2020 Corvette near the intersection of Mt. Zion Church Road and Church Road in Mechanicsville setting off a three-car crash involving Lusby resident Jaleisa Wilcox.
According to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the crash scene on Wednesday afternoon, where they found the three involved vehicles, two of which were overturned, one of which came to rest in the opposite lane.
The investigation determined that Carlucci was driving south on Three Notch Road near Laurel Grove Road the his Corvette struck the driver’s side of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner being driven by 50-year-old Hollywood resident Jeamine Eugene Barnes.
After being hit, Barnes’ Toyota caromed into Wilcox's Toyota Camry, sending all three vehicles into a nearby embankment, with both the Camry and Corvette rolling over and the 4Runner crossing over into the opposite lanes of traffic, according to the sheriff.
Carlucci was taken to Capitol Regional Medical Center for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries, and Wilcox was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office say. The agency is also on the lookout for a dark-colored Ford Mustang with stripes, which may have been in the area before the crash and whose driver may have information that could aid the investigation.
Following her death, friends and well-wishers were fast to flock onto Facebook to pay their respects to Wilcox and her family, led by those closest to her.
"My mom, my best friend, and now my (angel). We are going to be so at a loss without you," her daughter posted on Facebook. "But I promise to everything we do and all the goals we reach will all be for you. I promise we will do everything in our power to get justice for you.
"I love you forever and ever."
