Shaun Vincent Thomas, 44, of Cleveland, Ohio, was killed at approximately 9 a.m. on I-270 in Frederick County while he was riding with a group of motorcyclists in the area of Doctor Perry Road in Ijamsville.

The preliminary investigation by Maryland State Police detectives determined that a group of motorcycles was traveling north no the interstate when Thomas’ 2011 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle began to wobble and he lost control.

Thomas, a former member of the East Cleveland Police Department, laid the motorcycle down and was ejected, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

“Shaun was one of the most respectful (and soft-spoken) individuals you'd ever want to meet. His role as a father was always his first priority,” the department posted online following the announcement of his death.

“(He) has worked for The City of East Cleveland police department, The Cleveland Clinic Police department, and the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's department. He recently returned to the East Cleveland police department as a commissioned auxiliary officer.”
