Tree Trimmer Airlifted After Industrial Incident In Carroll County, State Police Say

A tree trimmer in Carroll County suffered serious injuries on Tuesday morning and had to be airlifted away from a worksite for treatment and evaluations at a Maryland trauma center.

Silver Spring resident Ramon Hernandez, 69, was transported by a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Tuesday, May 9, where there was a reported industrial incident after he was struck by a truck.

The incident was reported shortly before 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning in the 1500 block of Old Taneytown Road in Westminster, where there was an ongoing tree trimming operation, police say.

Investigators determined that a Baltimore man driving a 2017 Freightliner M2 Bucket Truck on a private driveway when he accidentally backed into Hernandez while he was believed to be working as a spotter.

It is unclear what caused the crash.

The incident is now being investigated by Maryland State Police and Maryland Occupational Safety and Health officials.

No charges have been filed by state police as of Tuesday afternoon.
