Five people were injured during an early morning chain-reaction crash on Friday in Westminster, when an allegedly drunk driver set off series of events that led to the children’s injuries, state police say.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Friday, May 19, troopers were called to Route 95 south near Route 496, when a Kia being driven by Manchester resident Maura Onksy, 23, rear-ended the buggy before caroming into a Ford-F-150, which then struck a Chevrolet SUV.
At the time of the crash, it is believed that the buggy, Ford, and Chevy were stopped in the roadway due to road closures, as state police investigated a separate crash in the area.
A 5-year-old boy was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation of undisclosed injuries. Two siblings and his parents were taken by paramedics to Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Their conditions were not available on Friday afternoon.
It is alleged that at the time of the crash, Onksy was alleged under the influence and she was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. The sole driver of the Ford and four people in the SUV all refused treatment at the scene.
