Updated Fire On Main Street Is Dying Down

Firefighters have knocked back the clouds of thick black smoke that have consumed much of the 1000 block on Main Street, Tuesday, Aug. 18, afternoon.

A commercial building in the vicinity of 1900 Main Street has caught fire and is producing large black smoke clouds across the street.

Firefighters are still on scene of the four-alarm fire bringing the blaze under control. The clouds were reduced significantly by around 3 p.m.

Emergency responders are asking that people stay out of the area, the 1000 block on Main Street, for now.

A one-story commercial building caught fire around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18. It is not clear where or how the fire originated at this time. It is also unclear which businesses have been impacted. Businesses in the area of the fire include Tri-State Roofing, Laporte Driving School, Nexen Tires, Speed Zone Motor Sports, Prestige Travel, and a smoke shop.

Milbury and Leicester Fire Departments are providing mutual aid to the Worcester force.
