But fast-working firefighters were able to rescue several pets from the inferno.  The call came in just after 1:30 p.m. that a house near the intersection of Common Street and Post Road was in flames, the Brookfield Fire Department said. Two Killed In Head-On Worcester County Crash Involving Pickup Truck, SUV Police are investigating after two men were killed and a third seriously injured in a head-on crash in the region. The crash took place in Worcester County around 12:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14 on Route 49 at Flagg Road in East Brookfield, Massachusetts State Police said. Total Of 68 Cats Rescued From Single Home In Region Dozens of cats are looking for new “forever homes” after they were surrendered to a Massachusetts animal shelter by a man unable to continue taking care of them. Earlier this month, a pet owner in Worcester County contacted the Second Chance Animal Services in North Brookfield because he had to leave his home and needed to make arrangements for cats he had taken in through the years. Initially, 52 pets were handed over to the shelter, with an additional 16 surrendered over the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 23 to bring the total to 68 cats that will soon be up for adoption.

8 Fire Departments Needed To Knock Down Raging House Fire It took eight fire departments to put out a raging house fire over the weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 19, around 11:30 p.m., Spencer firefighters responded to a report of a fire on Sheppard Road. The fire had started in the attic, firefighters said. The flames quickly spread and the town called in back up from Southbridge, Brimfield, Holland, Charlton, Brookfield, East Brookfield, and Auburn. The cause of the fire is under investigation. People sustained minor injuries in the blaze, firefighters said.
