A Nye-ce Surprise: CT Teacher Competes To Bring Science Legend To His Classroom A Connecticut teacher with a passion for science hopes to land his class a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: a virtual lesson from legendary science educator Bill Nye, "The Science Guy." Josh Bartosiewicz, 31, a seventh- and eighth-grade teacher at the Unquowa School in Fairfield, is competing in the "America’s Favorite Teacher" award, a contest that benefits the Planetary Society. Voting is now open and runs until March 6. If he wins, Bartosiewicz will receive a $25,000 cash prize, a trip to Hawaii, and the chance to have Nye—a childhood hero—teach a live, virtual class for his students. …

CT Art Teacher Who Died Unexpectedly Was 'Free Spirit' Who 'Spoke Her Mind,' Mom Says Alyssa Iwanski always wanted to be an art teacher, her mother said. The 31-year-old spent her youth at her grandmother's side, poring over art books and especially admiring the works of Georgia O'Keeffe. She brought that passion to her classroom at Saxe Middle School in New Canaan, where she hoped to inspire students in the same way. Tragically, the Stratford woman died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 11. Her mother, Louise Iwanski, did not disclose the cause of her daughter's death. Pair Of New Assistant Principals Named At High School In Fairfield County A high school in Fairfield County is welcoming the arrival of two new assistant principals.  Both Parthena Proskinitopoulos and Nicholas Torres have been appointed as the new Assistant Principals of Weston High School, district officials announced on Friday, July 19.  Proskinitopoulos and Torres will replace Juliane Givoni and Matthew Filip, who will become the Weston school district's Director of Human Resources and return to classroom teaching, respectively.  According to school officials, Proskinitopoulos already has plenty of leadership…
