New London County resident Craig McCue, age 31, of North Stonington, was arrested in Windham County on Tuesday, Oct. 12, by Plainfield Police following a months-long investigation.

The investigation began after a concerned parent alerted authorities in May regarding alleged inappropriate text messages on their child’s cellphone, said Plainfield Chief of Police Mario A. Arriaga.

Arriaga said McCue, a former 8th-grade teacher at Plainfield Central School, sent messages that allegedly included inappropriate photos and the teacher admitting he supplied the child with marijuana.

Detectives also uncovered McCue had several inappropriate relationships with minors. They added that the victims were under the age of 16 at the time.

The victims were either students, former students, or players he had coached, police added.

McCue was charged with two counts of sexual assault and seven counts of risk of injury to a minor.

He was held in lieu of a $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
