Brennan: Wilton 'Very, Very Lucky' After Blizzard

WILTON, Conn. – First Selectman Bill Brennan says Wilton was “very, very lucky” to avoid the perils other towns are dealing with in the aftermath of last weekend’s blizzard.

Parts of Wilton got anywhere from 14 to 18 inches, but the totals could have been far worse, Brennan said Monday as the town continues to dig out. “We just didn’t get the terrific dumping that those towns along the coast and north of Bridgeport and Fairfield got,” he said. “Places like Stonington, Old Lyme, Stratford have a lot.”

All of Wilton’s roads are clear, he said, thanks to Wilton Public Works and highway crews canvassing the roads beginning on Friday. He planned to review town roads on Monday afternoon to make sure they were clear. Brennan said the town is most concern with possible flooding and crews were working Monday to clean out catch basins and clearing sidewalks in the town.

Brennan also reminded property owners to clean up the sidewalks in front of their properties. The first selectman said Wilton crews will also travel to other towns with more snowfall to assist in road clearing efforts. “We’re trying to see if they can use some help with our plows,” he said.
