WILTON, Conn. Young Wilton wrestlers had an impressive medal haul at the Oxford-Derby Beginners Tournament last Saturday at Oxford High School.
Wilton won six gold medals, three silvers and two bronzes. It is only the second year of competition for the Wilton wrestlers, but the medal total indicates they have a bright future. The team is directed by head coach Tom Dexter and assistant Bo Santomero.
Competing in a field of 275 wrestlers, Wiltons gold medalists included Everett Andersen, Dominick Caratazzolo, Caleb Forland, Nicholas Rende, Christopher Sweeney and Wooder Thoby. Trey Dexter, Matthew Johnson and Stephen Kendra brought home silver, and Matthew Mackay and Jack Santomero won bronze medals. Several wrestlers had pins, and there were numerous major decisions for the Wilton boys.
The meet included large contingents from traditional Connecticut powerhouses, including Danbury, New Milford, Fairfield and Southington. A video link is available courtesy of Everett Andersen.
