Young Wilton Wrestlers Medal at States

WILTON, Conn. – Hans Forland finished third in his division and Will Litton took fourth to lead a strong performance by the Wilton Youth Wrestling team at the Connecticut State championships over the weekend in New Haven.

Forland, 13, took third place in the 77-pound weight bracket. There were 14 wrestlers in the weight class. Forland lost one match to a two-time state champion but came back to finish third. He will wrestle in the New England Regionals on March 11.

Litton, 12, competed in a nine-wrestler bracket at 95 pounds. He quickly advanced into the finals by winning several bouts against experienced wrestlers. He lost to the eventual champion and took fourth, which also qualified him for regionals. Litton declined the regional bid.

Mikey Longo (55 pounds) and Max Mannino (55 pounds) each took fifth place within their brackets. Patrick Ciquera (95 pounds), Travis Longo (65 pounds) and Finn McGovern (75 pounds) all wrestled well for Wilton.

Brian McGovern, Ted Young and Greg Morris coach the team. Wilton High School Wrestling Coach John Foldeak was among the spectators who came to cheer on the Wilton team.
