Wilton Woman Helps Virginia To 3rd at Top Regatta

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s Molly Frear, a senior coxswain at the University of Virginia, helped the Cavaliers finish third Sunday in the championship eight race at the Head of the Charles in Boston.

Virginia had the top collegiate time in the race, finishing behind the Cambridge Boat Club and a team from USRowing. The Cambridge crew included eight Olympians from eight nations. Among the teams Virginia beat were national squads from Canada and the Netherlands, the London Rowing Club with Olympians from England and New Zealand and college teams from Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford.

The Head of the Charles is one of the marquee races of the fall for rowers, and the championship eight features elite international competition.

Virginia’s B team in the race finished 15th with Westport’s Lizzy Youngling. Darien’s Emily Pik and Emily Crump, Greenwich’s Paige Terry and Weston’s Brittany Wengel are also on Virginia crew, which won the NCAA championship last spring.
