WILTON, Conn. The Wilton Y Wahoos were recognized for many achievements at Connecticut Swimming's annual awards banquet. In all, 98 Wahoos were honored for academic achievements and/or top 16-ranking swims.
Selection of the Top 16 is based upon swimmers who post the 16 fastest times in the state in each age group and individual events during the short-course and long-course seasons.
Scholar-athletes have completed 10th, 11th, and 12th grade, earning a minimum 3.5 grade-point average.
Wilton's Stephen Holmquist received both the 13/14 boys Overall High Point Award and Distance High Point Award, recognizing his success at the Short Course Age Group Championships this past spring. Stephen scored the greatest number of points in all the events in the 13/14 age group, finishing first in the 1,650 freestyle, 1,000 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 200 fly, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley, in which he broke the Connecticut record.
Wilton resident Wahoos recognized as scholar-athletes or for Top-16-ranked swims are: Emma Babashak, Callum Breene, James Damon, Connor Devaney, Jake Florio, Courtney Gilroy, Brooke Hendee, Grace Hendee, Kelly Heyde, Caroline Higgins, Sean Higgins, Emma Holmquist, Stephen Holmquist, Sophie Hornby, Tommy Kealy, Meg Lattimer, Tim Lattimer, Jack Lewis, Ryan Looney, Matthew Martin, Mace Molina, Richard Nolan, Caroline O'Brien, Morgan Scarth, Chris Wilson and Jason Xie.
