Norwalk’s Julia Barr will attend Fordham University in the Bronx. Wilton’s Amanda Jenkins and Kylie O’Conner will attend Boston College, and Trumbull’s Maggie Walsh will head to Northeastern University in Boston.

Barr, Jenkins and O’Conner were on the NRRA team that finished fourth in the Women’s Youth 8+ in the U.S. Youth Northeast Regional championships in May.

"I'm so excited to be going to Boston College, and I can't wait to come back next year to visit and see how the program grows and develops,’’ said O’Conner, a  team co-captain and four-year rower at Norwalk. “Our younger girls have so much potential."

Barr, another co-captain, found a passion for rowing while competing at NRRA. "Rowing started just as a hobby, but during my time at Norwalk rowing has turned into a passion,’’ she said. “The team has become like family to me, and we have formed a bond that most people will never find."

Jenkins, a three-year member of the team, believes her experience will help her at college. "The lessons I have learned at Norwalk will help me not only at Boston College next year, but also as an adult,’’ she said. “I've had the opportunity to be a part of the most supportive network I know: my team."

"These young women display exceptional dedication to what they do. They bring that attitude to practice every day," said Catharine Labine, Norwalk's girls coach. "They've set a new standard."

The team is participating in a winter conditioning program to prepare for the spring season.
