Wilton Player Helps AAU Boys Hoops Team Win 2 Tourneys

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The United Sons and Daughters boys basketball team, which included players from Norwalk, Westport, Darien, New Canaan, Greenwich, Wiltonand Fairfield, won two prestigious tournaments over the weekend.

The defending Connecticut AAU champions entered the Battle of the Hardwood tournament in the 15-and-under and 16-and-under divisions, compiling a 7-0 record. The team will defend its AAU title this weekend in Hartford.

Players from area towns included Norwalk’s Peter Kotulsky, Westport’s Mack Muller and Justin Seideman, Hayes Kelchner of Fairfield, Darien’s Alex Preston, Zak Swetye and Carter Scott, New Canaan’s James Crovatto and Tyler Sweeney, Greenwich's Jacob Manton and Wilton's Jack Williams.

In the 15-and-under championship game, USAD won 74-51 over Elite Sports. Preston and Scott scored 19 apiece while Brunswick student Sean Morris added 16.

In the 16-and-under tournament, USAD defeated the Western Connecticut Warriors, 44-35, and West Hartford Magic, 64-22, to nail down the title on Sunday, May 4. Scott and Preston combined for 53 points over the two games for the winners.

The game of the tournament was a 15-year-old battle against the Bridgeport-based Connecticut Elite. 

USAD won 86-82, as Kelchner scored 20 while Crovatto’s physical play on both ends of the floor proved critical. C.J. Seaforth finished with 24 points, and Swetye hit some critical 3-pointers.

The team is coached by Darien's Doug Scott, the boys basketball coach at Greens Farms Academy.
