Wilton Girls Win Relay Gold at State Track

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton’s girls' track and field team won the 4 x 100-meter relay to lead performances by the Warriors at the Class L track and field championships Tuesday at Middletown High School.

Wilton ran 49.54 with Megan Cunningham, Taylor Gillespie, Kafesha Thomas and Brynn Parsons, nipping Windsor by 0.18 seconds. The victory helped Wilton compile 26 points, good for 11th place. Wilton’s boys finished eighth with 33 points. Windsor swept the boys and girls titles.

Thomas added a third-place finish in the 200m, running 26.04. Her seeded time was 26.64. Parsons, who had the top seeded time in the 100m, missed the race with an injury.

Wilton’s 4 x 400m girls' team took seventh, and the 4 x 800m relay took fifth. Katie Ward added a fifth-place finish in the high jump.

For the boys, freshman Spencer Brown took sixth in the 1,600m in 4:37.41. Devin Quirk took seventh in the 300-meter hurdles; the 4 x 100m relay team and 4 x 800m relay teams both finished fifth.

In field events, Wesley Shipp cleared 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump and finished third. Max Fanwick was sixth in the pole vault and Alex Ward was third in the long jump. Mark Piedmont was sixth in the discus.
