WILTON, Conn. After four weeks of preliminary competition at the Colgate Women's Games in Brooklyn, N.Y., Kafesha Thomas and Brynn Parsons of Wilton are in fourth and fifth place respectively in the 55-meter dash. The girls run for the Connecticut Elite team.
Thomas moved ahead of Parsons this week with a fifth place finish in the final last Friday in a time of 7.4. Parsons did not attend this meet due to a prior commitment.
Each has accumulated enough points over the last four weeks to earn a spot in Saturday's semifinals in Brooklyn. At stake is a trip to the finals at Madison Square Garden the following week.
"They made the finals each week they competed and repeating that in the semis should get both of them to the Garden", coach Kevin Foley said. "They worked hard and earned their way into the semis and earning a spot in the finals is a situation they feel very comfortable in." The top six women in each event will compete in the finals at the Garden.
Two other Wilton athletes competed in the games last Friday with Katie Foley advancing to the semifinals in the 55M in a personal best time of 7.84. Foley is a student at Lauralton Hall in Milford. In addition, Meg Hemmerle, who attends Wilton High School, finished second in her heat of the 200M in a time of 30.0.
