WILTON, Conn. – Wilton High School’s girls basketball team stretched its winning streak to 15 games and virtually assured itself the top seed in the upcoming league playoffs by beating Danbury, 50-30, in Wilton on Thursday night.

Wilton (17-2 overall, 15-2 in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference) can secure the No. 1 seed in its regular-season finale Friday when it plays Bassick of Bridgeport (2-16). If the Warriors win, they will host No. 8 Ridgefield in Saturday’s first round at 4 p.m. Casey Pearsall scored 16 points for Wilton. Erica Meyer added 12, and Alyssa Malvarossa scored 10.

“We knew it was going to be one of our hardest games,’’ said Malvarossa, who was honored with Pearsall in Senior Night ceremonies before the game. “They’re a very physical team, and with Senior Night it was hard to keep my emotions in check. I haven’t cried yet, but it was definitely emotional.”

Wilton scored the first 15 points of the game and never looked back. Danbury got within 26-18 at half and scored the first basket of the third quarter. But Wilton went on an 8-2 run to take a 34-22 lead midway through the quarter and led 36-25 entering the fourth. The Warriors maintained a double-digit lead in the final period.

Malvarossa and Meyer grabbed nine rebounds apiece for Wilton, while Pearsall had seven assists and seven steals.

If Wilton gets the No. 1 seed, it will be the first time in program history that the Warriors have earned that distinction, according to coach Jaclyn Porco. Wilton won its only league championship in 1989 when its lineup included U.S. women's soccer legend Kristine Lilly.
