WILTON, Conn. - Matt Kobyra scored with 8.1 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Wilton High boys hockey team a thrilling 2-1 victory over New Milford in the opening round of the Division II state tournament on Tuesday evening. It was Kobyra's second goal of the game.
After a scoreless opening period, 13th-seeded New Milford took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal. The score stayed that way until Kobyra knotted the game at 1-1 midway through the third.
The Warriors take on conference rival Trumbull on Friday at a time and venue to be determined. Fourth-ranked Wilton (11-10) will try to advance to the Division II state semifinals for the second year in a row.
