Wilton Boys Basketball Eliminated by Trinity

WILTON, Conn. – One of the best boys basketball seasons in Wilton High history came to a close Wednesday night with a 71-51 loss to Trinity Catholic in the second round of the Class L tournament in Stamford.

Weston Wilbur scored 15 points to lead the 23rd-seeded Warriors, who finished the season 11-11. No. 7 Trinity Catholic advances to the quarterfinals Friday against No. 2 Career Magnet.

The Crusaders came out on fire and built a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Schadrac Casimir (20 points) and Brandon Wheeler (15 points) scored seven each in the first period. Jason Boswell added 17 for the Crusaders.

Trinity led 35-18 at halftime and built the lead to 24 points at several points in the second half. Matt Shifrin scored 11 for Wilton, and Ian Ross added eight. It was the final game for seniors Ross, Chris Nugent, Conner Buehler, Sean Carroll and William Kelley, each of whom got a warm embrace from coach Tim Tallcouch as they left the game in the final minutes.

Wilton was playing in the state tournament this year for the first time since 2000.

The Warriors advanced with a first-round upset of No. 10 University on Monday, 70-63, but were beaten badly on the boards by a Trinity team that reached the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship game and is seeking its second straight state title. The Crusaders have won seven straight state playoff games.
